Overall looks • Shellflower is a small, robust, round cat. Her tail is very long and fluffy, akin to a feather, and she often trashes it aggressively when bored. She’s got a very round face and a bumpy, convex pink nose. Her fur is long, double coated and very soft from dedicated grooming. From her sharply-pointed ears comes slightly curled ear furnishings which are almost longer than the ear itself. Her whiskers are long, white and face slightly downwards. She’s got such a high percentage of white spotting on her coat, it can be difficult to recognise her colouration at first glance, she is almost entirely white aside from a cream toe on her front-left paw, a few cream and grey spots on the backs of her heels, and the cream tip of her tail. She’s got long fluff emerging from in between her pink toes (another favourite washing place) and a small spattering of scars on her left shoulder from a bad scrape when she was an apprentice. Her eyes are a stormy grey-blue, similar to an overcast sky.

Overall personality • Shellflower is the sort of cat that others either love or hate. On one hand, she’s often opening, welcoming and warm, and is a great friend to confide in. On the other hand, she’s known as being an awful gossip and occasionally a manipulative liar. Of course, what’s to say that those two views of her aren’t mere rumours themselves?
Outwardly, Shellflower has the perfect personality to blend into the crowd of Pineclan. She carries herself with a sort of high arrogance that doesn’t go with her little rotund appearance at all. If she wasn’t Pineclan, then she probably wouldn’t be able to pull it off. However, she somehow does, and her strong personality has won her plenty of friends. With her closest friends, she is trusting. She loves joking about and chatting with other cats and has a great memory for what other tell her. She uses her social skills to learn about other cats. She’s fascinated by the inner workings of others around her, fascinated by their worldviews, their prejudices, their enemies and fears. If you want to know something about a certain cat, you go to Shellflower.
On her own, she tends to be unsure and listless. Shellflower is easily beaten down by those who she has little knowledge of or who are more socially liked than she is. She defines herself by her relation to others, and thus when she has no relation to others she feels mentally naked.
Shellflower, despite her extroverted demeanour, is emotionally guarded. In the depths of her mind she feels inadequate. She doesn’t like to acknowledge this part of herself often, and when she does it is only for short times, when she is alone. She is deeply troubled by the notion that she will die alone and failed. She is terrified of dying and disease.
Unfortunately, Shellflower is lazy. She hates fighting, hates going on patrol duty for the potential of fighting, and isn’t too fond of hunting, either, mostly due to the fact that she finds it difficult to keep quiet. That's why she's a nurse. Well, that, and Kiteflower's influence. She's a pretty good nurse, and an awful lot of young kits see her as the 'cool nurse' due to her relaxed demenour and tendency to accidentally use vulgar language in front of kits.

Overall history •
Pre-Birth
Boulderfang and Saxifragefoot were an unlikely couple. Boulderfang, a broad-shouldered, battlescarred molly, seemingly twice her age, with little patience for jests and even less patience for romance. And Saxifragefoot, a thin, soft-furred cat with bright, smiling eyes, who always seemed to be mroe words than actions, always more spirit than body. The pair had trained together as apprentices, and whilst Saxifragefoot had taken on the role of a hunter of small rodents, the cat he admired had decided to prove her loyalty on the battlefield. And yet, the two were deeply in love by the time they had their first litter.
Kithood
Shellkit and her two siblings, Mistkit and Knotkit, were born on a warm Greenleaf night, happy, pudgy and healthy. Boulderfang - who secretly had an intense fear of kitting - was comforted by this fact and allowed herself to relax slightly into her new role. But that comfort wouldn't last long. A few days after the birth of her kits, she heard news the sickness that her mate had suddenly fallen ill. His disease was a strange one - categorised by a seemingly endless cycle of fever, sickness, swelling, and then a period of good health - and it confused the healers to no end. Saxifragefoot got it into his head that his illness was somehow a torment of the fae. What if this curse passed onto other cats? One night, when no cat was looking, he snuck his way out of camp and was never seen again.
This disappearance devastated Boulderfang and drove a wedge between her and her three kits. Whilst Boulderfang still went through the motions of being the vague definition of a mother, she no longer interacted with her kits at all outside of feeding and cleaning, instead deciding to spend most of her time outside the nursery but still in the camp. So Shellkit, Knotkit and Rainkit spent most of their kithood being raised by other cats. In particular, Shellkit took a particular liking to Kiteflower and her kits. This was deeply ironic. Kiteflower was Saxifragefoot's sister.
Boulderfang had made a decision not to tell her kits about their father's demise, but Kiteflower went against this decision and told Shellkit about the situation when she grew old enough. This disturbed her for a bit, and for a moon after, Shellkit endured horrific nightmares of her father calling to her from the faerie realm. Tormented by these, she decided to sneak out of camp and try and find a faerie ring. However, she didn't even manage to get out of sight of the camp before being found by a young warrior called Plumfoot. Shellkit was dragged back to camp, given a fierce telling-off, and remained secure in the nursery until she was finally ready to be apprenticed.
Apprenticehood
Shellpaw was apprenticed to Plumfoot, Plumfoot, who had been left with a very negative view of the young cat. This view only further became cemented when they realised how awful a warrior she was. Her hunting skills were atrocious. She was a massive pushover when fighting. She couldn't even patrol well, always antagonising about the slightest noise or other-clan scent and getting lost. Plumfoot, desperate to prove themselves as a capable mentor, continued trying hard to train Shellpaw up as best as they could. This was Boulderfang's kit! Why was she so useless?
Shellpaw's failings were made even worse when compared to her siblings. Both Knotpaw and Rainpaw were coming on leaps and bounds, with Rainpaw taking after their late father with his great hunting skills, and Knotpaw becoming increasingly adapt in water. Shellkit paled in comparision.
Both Mistpaw and Knotpaw's trails came and went. Mistwhisker and Knotstream began to make names for themselves as warriors. And still, their sister stood an apprentice, still not even chosen a skill path to follow. In a fit of desperation, Plumfoot turned to their apprentice and cried,
"If you're so helpless, then just go back to the nursery!"
And that's exactly what Shellpaw did.
For the next few moons, Shellpaw trained as a nurse alongside the cat who raised her, Kiteflower. Plumfoot, happily surprised by this turn of events, popped in to occasionally motivate Shellpaw. They were technically still her mentor, after all.
Nursehood
Finally, at the age of 20 moons, Shellpaw was made a nurse and given the name Shellflower. Happily, she settled down into her duties well, immensely preferring the camp-orientated duties of a nurse over the dangerous work of a warrior. Truth be told, her kithood excursion had left her frightened of the world beyond the camp. It was simply safer to stay inside. What if, one day, she came across the long-rotted bones of-
Well. That didn't bear thinking about.
