overall looks • Bitternnose is a brown ticked tabby. His fur has a reddish tint that is especially noticable in direct sunlight. The fur on his tail doesn't have this effect and is a dark brown. His ticked pattern gives him a strange look, somewhat like small broken stripes. The 'M' on his head has a large contrast, being almost black. His fur is long and fluffy, noticably soft and plushy. It's also quite dense. Bitternnose has whitespotting on the toes of his paws and a small white spot on his chin. He is medium-sized, maybe a little larger than average. The fluff makes up most of his build, though. Underneath, he is a semi-cobby, with a stockier body and lower legs. His muzzle is short and rounded, with a noticable break. His nose is brick red. Walnut-shaped eyes are hazel. He has small, equilateral ears with a rounded tip.

overall personality • Bitternnose is a charismatic tom that loves conversation. Discussing recent Clan news or chatting about the weather is always welcome, as is venting to him or discussing problems with him. He cares about others and their feelings, always careful to not offend or insult. He tries to be as polite as possible, although sometimes he forgets or doesn't realize that he is hurtful. Strangely, Bitternnose is stubborn in quite a lot of his thought and opinions. He doesn't tolerate bullies or selfishness. When confronting these cats, he becomes angry and passionate, letting him politeness. Bitternnose is quite empathetic, as he is able to put himself into others' position. This makes him a good mentor to most. He is honest and almost never lies (not that he would be able to trick anyone with his lies, they are terrible). This also carries the unfortunate conflict of im not wanting to say lies to protect others, but he also doesn't want to hurt anyone. However, if anyone expresses negative opinions on the monarch, the heirs, faeries or PineClan, he will likely stop the conversation immediately or walk away from it. Near the cats he likes, he loses his charm and becomes awkward and timid. He often tries to impress his crushes and compliment them as much as possible. It's amusing to watch to most cats.
While Bitternnose isn't hot-headed, he is often guided by his heart. He isn't controlled by his emotions, but depends on them heavily. There isn't a lot of rationalitiy in his thoughts. He isn't stoical and can become riled up, but most of the time he is calm. He is an open book and easy to read, a lot of his emotions shows in his body language. When confonted by something he dislikes greatly, his first instinct is to become angry rather than sad. It's a strange contrast between his normal self and his angry one. Bitternnose is obedient and hardworking. All commands he will obey if they come from a higher-ranking cat. He would never think about breaking the Warrior Code.
The way that he sees the world, the monarch is always correct. Questioning any decisions is wrong and immoral, and so is thinking differently than the rest of the Clan. PineClan should always come first, before love and friends and family. Loyalty is of utmost importance. Believing that a way of living different than being in PineClan is treacherous in Bitternnose's eyes. In his opinion, there is a clear divide in good and evil. Those who obey the monarch and those who don't.

overall history • Sleetfoot and Walnutwhisker became friends in their apprenticeship, with Walnutwhisker being five moons senior to her. They were very close, especially after Sleetfoot's parents died and she took comfort in him. Their friendship was one of trust and it was solidified after they started calling each other by their secret names. After their warrior ceremonies, it was very clear to everyone around them that they have romantic feelings for each other, but due to their timid nature, they both danced around each other for moons, urged on by their friends and family. Only when Sleetfoot reached an age around thirty moons did she ask him to be her mate (which she readily accepted) and they waited another twenty to have their first litter of kits. It was a celebrated occasion, as most cats in PineClan thought that they wouldn't actually go through with parenthood. In accordance to PineClan tradition, the couple named all three of their tom-kits after birds.
Much of Bitternnose's earliest memories are of tragedy. Deerkit died just before reaching two moons from illness. Walnutwhisker mourned the loss intensly, although Sleetfoot appeared to move on. However, they were both affected by the war with MoorClan. Their closest (and mutual) friend Aspencloud died from her injuries. Accepting the peace with MoorClan was difficult for Sleetfoot when all she wanted was to avenge her friend. After his early kithood, Bitternkit had a normal life. He wasn’t one to get into trouble, raised by shy parents who encouraged obedience. Larkkit and Cranekit found that it was much more fun to make their parents happy than sneak out of camp too. They did have a healthy dose of confidence, however, occasionally causing trouble. Bitternkit on the other hand was different. He was polite and kind, eloquent for his age. He lacked confindence and often considered himself a failure. In an effort to boost him and help him reach his full potential, Sleetfoot started to compliment him for every single thing he did, which inflated his ego quite a lot. In his late kithood, he was regarded as the most arrogant cat in the Clan. Although Sleetfoot saw her mistakes in parenting and attempted to fix them, it was too late. With the encouragement of Cranekit and Larkkit, Bitternkit was disobedient and broke the rules a lot. This even caused his apprenticeship to be delayed by a moon. It didn't help much, and so the only option was to assign him a tough mentor that would raise Bitternkit to a loyal and obedient warrior.
Bitternpaw's mentor was Rushnose. Her and Bitternpaw's ambitions and skills didn't seem to match up much, but there was a reason for the choice. When Bitternpaw thought: "Is my mentor really some old hag?", he couldn't be further away from the truth. Even at 75 moons, she was a formidable and skilled warrior. She wasn't just an excellent tracker, she was also a very good hunter and could hold her own in a battle. To Bitternpaw's surprise, she could even swim. She won his respect very fast, although that wasn't the end of his character building (by Rushnose, of course). He had to prove his loyalty to the Clan over and over again, often ending up punished because of his arrogance. Bitternpaw could have his own opinion and even express it, but he had to treat everyone with the respect they deserve. It was a hard journey, and a very humbling one. The two were incredibly close, however. It was a big surprise to everyone when Bitternpaw kept rambling on about his amazing mentor even after being punished for some small disrespect that didn't seem to matter that much to anyone. It helped him learn about the worth of others, though. Interestingly, Bitternpaw decided that he wanted to become a great tracker and hunter like Rushnose too. To many it seemed as if the tom was better suited for battle, but it quickly became clear that he would never excel there. He was perfect for hunting though, and his senses were excellent.
After seeing Bitternpaw being pushed back from his apprenticeship, Larkpaw realized that he didn't want to be regarded as just "the arrogant kit's sidekick". He grew closer to his parents again and decided to adopt their ambitions. This distanced him from his brother, who Larkpaw still thought of as arrogant, even if Bitternpaw tried not to be. It grew into a mild dislike as Bitternpaw kept on beating Larkpaw in most exercises. To his surprise, Bitternpaw didn't brag but rather offered to help in the later moons of their apprenticeship. Seeking help from senior warriors, including their parents, the two reached a similar skill level with hunting, although Bitternpaw also excelled at tracking. However, Larkpaw was a good climber (not excellent, however), something that Bitternpaw never achieved.
Cranepaw never stepped out of Bitternpaw's shadow and continued idolizing him until they reached nine moons. Cranepaw wanted to follow Bitternpaw in becoming a tracker and hunter, but his skills weren't up to par. This created a time for him that he spent mostly thinking about who he is and who he will be. Fairly unambicious, he didn't have much of an aim for himself and tried to improve in everything at the same time. Bitternpaw offered to help, but Cranepaw refused out of jelaousity.
Bitternpaw was approached by his leader about the suffix he wanted. Knowing that his brother would probably get -whisker, he chose -nose for himself. It connected him to his mentor even more and allowed Larkpaw not to feel overshadowed in his early moons as a warrior.
Life went on fairly peacefully after that. Rushnose remained a close friend to Bitternnose, still teaching him the most advanced techniques and helping him become a better cat. She forgot about one thing, though. Disagreements in opinions between these two often resulted in friendly, but passionate arguments that caused Bitternnose to be fairly stubborn and hard to convince. While she didn't mind, it did clash with some cats.
Bitternnose watched Larkwhisker find a mate and have kits, while he still didn't find a cat to spend the rest of his days with. He felt a bit sad, but tried to be the best uncle he could. The sudden death of one of his brother's kits caused them to grow even closer together. The surviving kits sometimes think of Bitternnose as a third parent that was always nice and caring to them.
When he was about thirty moons old, Bitternnose became a mentor to a sweet she-cat by the name of Ferretpaw. She was hard-working and curious, even though a little shy. He tried his best to get her to break out of her shell and even partially succeeded. Taking Rushnose's lessons to heart, he attempted to forge a very close bond to Ferretpaw. The small she-cat became a close friend of his very easily, something like a daughter to him. She became an excellent tracker, better than him, although she was less well-rounded. She became more ambicious and confident under his guidance. Ferretnose is an excellent warrior and he is proud to have such a great apprentice. Bitternnose is currently looking forward to the next one, hoping that Cinderstar will notice his skills as a mentor.
The day after Ferretpaw becoming an apprentice, Sleetfoot's and Walnutwhisker's second litter was born. Only one kit survived though, a female they named Firkit. She got into lots of trouble as a kit, although not out of an inflated ago. She was simply too curious and had too much energy. She was a bit disobedient and liked to think for herself. After she was made an apprentice and given a mentor that was too strict for her, even though not by much, these traits became even more pronounced. She loved change and disliked the monotone of the Clan life. She decided to stay in PineClan after Bitternnose convinced her. He became someone she could vent to and someone she could trust. Surprisingly, she decided on "-strom" as her suffix, likely to highlight her unique personality.
His relationship with Cranepelt somehow worsened. He was bitter because he didn't recieve an apprentice and longed for more recognition, although he didn't really have a goal in mind or a skill that he wanted to master. Cranepelt started avoiding Bitternnose, to stop himself from being angry at him. This made Bitternnose quite upset. Cranepelt ignored Firstorm too, seeing how much time she spends with Bitternnose.
About twenty moons ago, he got to know Cinnabarclaw. She was fierce but caring, talented and hard-working. In his eyes, she was the prettiest she-cat he had ever seen and his true love. Bitternnose fell for her. Even though he was usually charismatic, he was suddenly awkward around her, always trying to impress her. She found his efforts endearing and the two became mates after a few moons of courtship. He was finally normal around her, opening up to her about everything. Their love was pure and supposed to last forever. They had even planned out having kits.
It was then that cats started disappearing without a trace. The mood in camp shifted and the couple decided to put off having kits until it was resolved. It wouldn't be good to raise them in a tense atmosphere. The next cat to be gone forever was Cinnabarclaw. She never returned. Time went hazy after she wasn't there anymore. He even denied the truth for a while, thinking that she would come back one day with some crazy story. Time went hazy after that. He stopped caring about most things, although he still spoke frequently to his family and friends, but he was distant. It was actually Rushnose that helped him snap out of his grief. Through letting him help and offering simple advice, she managed to get him back to the best that he can be. The value of providing for his Clan was reinforced to him in this moment and he placed it as the most important thing. Even when tragedy struck when his mother died, he didn't let himself fall so low again.
Currently, Bitternnose is figuring out how to repair his relationship with Cranepelt and keep Firstorm in PineClan. A rogue that has striking similarities to Cinnabarclaw recently and Bitternnose can't help falling in love again, even though he feels guilty for not staying without a mate in honor of Cinnabarclaw.
